Announcing Women’s Tours to Africa and Alaska!

ben January 7, 2018 0

Hey guys! I’m so excited to share two more amazing trips in 2018 with you!

In July and October, I’ll be taking two groups of adventurous women to Alaska, and Namibia, Botswana, and Victoria Falls in Africa.

These two destinations are different in almost every imaginable way, except for one thing – they’re both excellent places to have an adventure.

The trips range from an exhilarating introduction into adventurous travel in Africa and Alaska to full on adventurous immersion with a week of hiking in the Alaskan backcountry, completely off the grid, carrying our own gear.

There’s something here to suit everyone. Which one calls to you?

The view from Dune 45 in Namibia

We built the Africa trip of dreams, creating something that I don’t see in the market at the moment. Most of what I’ve come across are budget party safaris in tents or super luxury options priced out of many travelers’ budget ranges. Ours incorporates beautiful lodges under starry skies along with safaris, adrenaline adventures (if you so please), and the finishing touch of seeing one of the natural wonders of the world – Victoria Falls. Experience Africa in comfort and safety but without the stuffiness and lack of authenticity this October.

Here are some highlights:

  • The famous blackened Acacia Trees that you can only see in Namibia
  • Sunrise over the amazing orange sand dunes
  • A chance to sandboard and skydive
  • Tons of wildlife encounters in Etosha National Park, which is famous for rhinos, lions, zebra, giraffes, tons of colorful birds, and even the honey badger if we’re lucky.
  • A flight over the Okavango Delta, which is famous for its herds of elephants and hippos.
  • A river cruise in Chobe National Park which is still one of my favorite animal experiences to date.
  • A chance to get up close to and feel the power of Victoria Falls, a natural Wonder of the World.
  • Plus SO MUCH MORE. You can check out the itinerary here.

Amazing Alaska

Alaska is a dream destination for outdoorsy folks. It’s hard to find the words to describe the feeling you get staring out at glacier upon glacier in the wilderness with no development or other people around. It’s so humbling and awe inspiring. It’s an experience everyone should have at least once in life!

Here are some highlights:

  • A seven-hour Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise where we’ll get up close with glaciers and possibly whales!
  • A hike out on the Matanuska Glacier for spectacular views of crevasses, seracs, ice falls, moulins, caves and surface ponds.
  • White water rafting in glacier-fed water, some of the purest on Earth.
  • Hang out with adorable sled dogs and their puppies.
  • For those who want to backpack in Alaska, a special backpacking week for women where we head off of the trails, into the backcountry completely off the grid.
  • Special route-finding, navigation, and wilderness techniques taught to us by our guide Pete, who was the outdoor guru on MTV’s Made, Extreme Survivalists in Alaska!
  • Plus SO MUCH MORE. You can check out the itinerary here.

Plus for both tours, as much help as you want with photography from me, so that you come home with photos and memories that you’re super excited to share and keep forever.

Why We’re Doing Tours Especially for Women

I realized when I did surf training with a female group in Maui that there’s an added layer of comfort when it’s a group of women doing adventure activities.

Ever since I started traveling solo, I also realized that we women have a lot of stereotypes we’re up against when it comes to traveling. Also, we simply do have a different set of things to think about on the road. In a lot of ways, being a female traveler is a gift and an advantage, and when shared, it grows!

What I love about doing a tour that’s specifically for women is the safe container it provides to test your adventurous spirit with a group of like-minded women who want to do the same thing. The dynamic feels supportive and sisterly, and when you’re trying things that are a physical or mental challenge, that can be so comforting.

Safety and Comfort

When it comes to Africa, a big question in a lot of people’s minds is safety. After spending six months in Southern Africa, a month of which I spent in the countries that we’ll be visiting on this trip, I’m confident that we’ve chosen the best spots to travel through this beautiful part of the world in.

It may come as a surprise that both Namibia and Botswana are ranked safer than the United States by the Institute for Economics and Peace, and both have incredible wildlife, breathtaking natural beauty, and fantastic lodges. We will have access to infrastructure, and we’ll be in comfort. Plus, we’ll have these amazing experiences together, so you’ll never have to venture off into the unknown.

In Alaska, we’ll be in rugged conditions, particularly for the hiking week in week two. This is why our guide Pete is so fantastic to have along. He has over 200 hours of wilderness medicine training and is a certified Wilderness First Responder. We will also be equipped with a Satellite Phone and Personal Locator Beacon.

I personally did a more difficult hike with him in Alaska last summer just to see if he really knows his stuff, and he does, minus the ego and machismo that I’ve sometimes encountered with other guides. I knew after that experience that he was the perfect person to bring these adventure tours to life with.

Why Be My Travel Muse Adventures?

It’s always my goal when traveling to have an experience that feels unique, authentic, and real. With these tours, I want you to feel that way too. I want it to awaken your sense of adventure, or if that’s already wide awake, to keep stoking that fire within you, so that the world feels accessible and inviting to you. I see exploration as playful and fun, and I want to extend that to you as well.

Based on the awesome, dynamic group that signed up for the Peru trip, which was exclusively solo travelers, by the way, I can tell that the types of people who have interest in these trips are what I always suspected – women who want the real deal, but who might not want to do some of these adventures completely alone, which I totally get!

An incredible amount of planning went into crafting these amazing adventures in Alaska and Africa, and I’m so excited to go on these tours myself, which is why I feel confident offering them to you. I’m excited to share this experience with you and I can’t wait to get that chance!

So where do you want to go in 2018? Pick a place that starts with an ‘A’, and I’ll see you there!
