Spring Textures :: Silk trench & Lace dress

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you enjoyed Sunday’s Spotlight Post (as seen here). I think Sunday posts will be where I’ll share fashion related and non-related stories. It’s almost like a stream of consciousness where some posts are theme-driven (like yesterday’s post) and others will be text and thoughts without pictures. Regardless, I greatly appreciate your time and your support in stopping by. This blog is really an extension of who I am, so thank you so much for letting me share.

Continuing this conversation, I really want to be honest. When I first started blogging, I got some negative comments about wearing the same things over again. And these comments continued through the years. It felt like a crime to wear something “old”. I do understand where these comments are coming from… being a style blogger, it’s part of my job to share the latest trends or the current most-wanted pieces, etc. But being a real person, I really don’t do that in my own personal life. Current must-haves or new items are great sometimes, but I actually love wearing my favorite pieces over and over again. And I think the pressure of keeping up with trends and newness can be very draining.

One thing I really appreciate about the digital age and blogs/forums is that it has helped democratize fashion. Fashion today is less about buying the latest and greatest, but more about individual style. Mixing new and old, high and low, luxury and street – whatever combination you’re comfortable with and confident in. I’ll probably get some negative messages, but it’s worth it. This lace dress is… yup, old (as seen in this blog post) and I love it more every time I wear it. I’m restyling it (my favorite part about fashion!) with lines and color accents by adding a black choker and thin belt over it, and finishing the look with a glossy satin silk trench. And I love that this silk trench can transform into a dress (speaking again to restyling!). Wear it close and belted (with a slip dress underneath for extra security) and it’s a trench-style long dress!
